Competition: Premier League
Market: Chelsea to score over 1.5 goals
Odds: 4/5 @ 888sport
Knowing they have a golden chance to make it six wins on the bounce this weekend, a high-flying Chelsea will travel to the South Coast on Saturday lunchtime.
Starting with the hosts, despite their FA Cup victory in the Midlands last week, that appears to have just been an ever-so minor bounce for Southampton. Watching Wolves pick up some immediate revenge at St. Mary’s last weekend, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side threw away the lead and were hit with another worrying 2-1 defeat on home soil. Freefalling their way out of the top-half of the table and with their outside European hopes now in tatters, the pressure is really starting to mount on the former RB Leipzig boss. On a woeful six-match top-flight losing run, a run highlighted by that 9-0 drumming at Old Trafford when opening February, it should also be noted that the Saints are enduring their worst run in the club’s history. Also losing each of their last three straight appearances at St. Mary’s, Saturday’s hosts should face another overwhelming test this weekend.
As for the visitors, while Southampton might find themselves in the midst of a real Premier League nightmare, the mood in Chelsea’s camp should be at a red-hot high. Making a string of improvements since bringing in new boss Thomas Tuchel last month, the Blues put in another professional display in the capital on Monday night. Landing a 2-0 win against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge, the former PSG boss has seen his squad skyrocket their way back into the top-four. With a Champions League knockout tie against Atletico Madrid fast approaching, Chelsea fans find themselves enjoying a very impressive five-match winning run across all competitions. With a growing reputation for their recent displays at the back, Tuchel’s high-flyers should be smelling a golden chance to make it six in six this weekend.
