Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Man Utd are ‘back’ & hints at Amad Diallo start

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was pleased to see his team return to form, operating at a higher tempo than they have been doing during Thursday night’s 4-0 over Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

Bruno Fernandes scored twice, with further goals from Marcus Rashford and Daniel James. The United forwards were constantly playing on the shoulder of the defence and never let up.

The performance was marked turnaround from recent weeks when United have looked sluggish in the Premier League and dropped points as a result. Just days before facing La Real, Solskjaer’s side had given a lacklustre display and failed to beat West Brom.

“We spoke about it before the game that we need to be back to ourselves. Not more direct but attack quicker, see where there is a chance,” the Norwegian reflected, via ManUtd.com.

“We knew they would have a high line and not have the same pace as Marcus and Dan so we targeted those spaces. We just wanted to be back to ourselves again.

“The last few weeks, I don’t know how you say it in English but it’s been staccato, stop start and we’ve not really performed. It was about finding ourselves, being positive, having courage and running until you have to come off.”

January signing Amad Diallo made his eagerly anticipated first-team debut off the bench for the final few minutes and, with the tie already in the bag, there is a chance the 18-year-old could start the return leg at Old Trafford next Thursday. Prior to that, United also face Newcastle on Sunday.

“We’ll make a decision on that after Newcastle. He’s had a couple of games in the reserves. We’ll take it lightly,” Solskjaer said in further comments published by The Independent.

“There are still a few players that were on the bench that will want to start of course, but Amad is getting closer. We’ll see how much game time he’ll get.”
