Paper Talk: Man Utd, Chelsea face £178m hit to land top attacking target; Poch determined to sign Tottenham star

Manchester United and Chelsea are facing forking out a huge financial package to land a top striker target this summer, while PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to sign a Tottenham star, according to Sunday’s transfer gossip.

Manchester United and Chelsea will reportedly face paying £178million to land Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland this summer.

The Norway international has been unstoppable for Dortmund since joining them last year. His prolific form is expected to earn him a big-money move, with Europe’s top clubs watching on.

The Daily Star claims that United and Chelsea are among the leading contenders to sign Haaland.

However, they face paying a transfer fee of around £100m, whilst also investing a further £78m in his wages over five years.

That is significantly more than the €20m that Dortmund paid to bring in the 20-year-old from RB Salzburg.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market for a central striker. Edinson Cavani is only on a short-term deal, while Anthony Martial has never fulfilled his potential at Old Trafford.

Mason Greenwood was used as a No.9 in the Europa League win at Real Sociedad. But Solskjaer is still said to prefer the forward as a right-winger.

As for Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel has plenty of attacking options at his disposal. But summer signing Timo Werner has struggled to adapt to English football.

Olivier Giroud looks likely to move on this summer, while Tammy Abraham has struggled for consistency.

To that end, the Blues are ready to make a big splash for Haaland.

The one major question mark remains over whether both clubs would fork out such a huge amount, given the current financial contraints affecting the game.
