Man Utd ready to push through deals for talented Derby trio

Man Utd ready to push through deals for talented Derby trio

Manchester United are set to sign three unnamed youngsters from Wayne Rooney’s Derby County, claims a report.

Journalist Alan Nixon reported that United were on course to sign three young players from the Rams academy earlier this month.

And now The Athletic claim the deals are going ahead between the two clubs.

Derby’s finances have been hit heavily by the Covid-19 pandemic with the club struggling to pay their wage bill.

Sky Sports reported in January that the club were looking to sell some of their academy stars to help settle their debts. There were apparently no first-teamers on the “for sale” list

United are understood to be ready to pay a combined fee of around £750,000 for the young trio as they aim to strengthen their academy set up.

All three are understood to be under the age of 15, so United are buying potential for the future.

The links between the two clubs have been growing with former United legend Rooney at the helm at Pride Park.

Rooney’s son Kai, 11, signed for United’s academy in December.

While, Derby signed defender Teden Mengi on loan from United on transfer deadline day.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have shelved their plan to sign Jadon Sancho this summer and will look to strengthen in two other areas, claims a report.

Sancho interest dropped

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was desperate to get the 20-year-old Borussia Dortmund man into the club last summer.

But now, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, United’s interest has waned and they have other areas they would prefer to strengthen.

Amad Diallo’s arrival and the continued progress of Mason Greenwood has mean that Solskjaer’s priority is not as right-sided attacker.

Greenwood has recently penned a new long-term contract and the feelings behind the scenes at United is that Diallo is all but ready for the first team after his £37m move from Atalanta.

With those two player’s at his disposal Solskjaer is looking instead at a new No. 9 and and a centre-back this summer.

The report claims Solskjaer is still a huge fan of Sancho, 20, and if an opportunity too good to turn down arose then a deal could still be struck.

United baulked at the £108m that Dortmund wanted last summer and once the Augist deadline, imposed by the Bundesliga club, passed there was no chance of Sancho leaving.

Now the price tag has dropped somewhat due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
