Juventus chief hints ex-Man Utd and Tottenham target could move on

A Juventus star previously targeted by Manchester United and Tottenham could be on the move this summer after a frustrating season in Italy.

Paulo Dybala has made nearly 250 appearances for the Old Lady, scoring 98 goals. He has a been a key figure in their side since joining in 2015, helping them win the league in each of his seasons there.

He did come close to leaving two years ago, but a move to Tottenham failed to materialise. Manchester United are also understood to have attempted to lure him to Old Trafford.

Since then, he has played another 100 games and contributed to 58 goals, further proving his talent.

But his time with the Serie A giants could indeed be coming to an end after a difficult campaign for the 27-year-old.

Injuries have limited him to just 16 outings in all competitions. He has also managed just three goals and two assists. That’s a huge drop off from the highly productive form he was in last term.

Juventus chief issues contract update

Now, his future has been thrown into further doubt after a Juventus chief admitted contract renewal talks are far from advanced.

After Dybala was forced to sit out the Bianconeri’s win over Crotone, club director Fabio Paratici said (via the Mirror): “Paulo still has a few problems – it’s like he’s on a swing.

“Some days he’s better and others he’s worse. He seemed okay [last week], then he felt some pain again.

“We have spoken [about this contract], we have been speaking and will continue to speak in the next few days and months.”

The Argentine’s current deal isn’t due to expire until the summer of 2022. But for a player who has been a key cog at the club for some time, the need for multiple discussions over an extension is somewhat surprising.

If an agreement isn’t reached in the coming months, it could lead to Dybala leaving this summer. That’s because the next transfer window represents Juventus’ last chance to cash-in on the player for his full value.

Keeping him beyond that means risking losing him for free later down the line.

The situation could be of interest to Manchester United, who reportedly still hold an interest in Dybala.

It was claimed last month that they see him as a potential long-term alternative to Edinson Cavani. Read more about that here…
