Alisson opens up on ‘beloved’ father with Klopp willing to lose goalkeeper

Liverpool will not stand in Alisson Becker’s way if he wants to travel back to Brazil to be with his family following his father’s tragic passing.

Local media reported that Jose Becker died following a swimming accident at a dam near his home in Rincao do Inferno.

The 57-year-old was reported missing at around 5pm local time on February 24. However, his body was then found at midnight.

Writing on Twitter, Alisson broke his silence on the news. He wrote: “I would like to thank everyone for the messages and tributes to my beloved father!

“Our family feels loved by everyone! May God bless each one’s life.”

The Daily Mirror reports that Liverpool will not hold any grudges if Alisson wants to travel back to Brazil.

Doing so would mean entering a coronavirus red-listed country and being forced to quarantine for 10 days upon his return.

As such, the 28-year-old could miss the five games before the March international break. However, manager Jurgen Klopp recently suffered similar heartache with the death of his mother.

What’s more, like Alisson, he was unable to travel back to Germany for the funeral.

Therefore, the Daily Mirror adds that Klopp has ‘spoken at length’ with the player and will offer his support.

Liverpool released a statement on their official website which read: “The thoughts of everybody at the club are with Alisson and the Becker family at this incredibly sad and difficult time.

“The club requests that the media respects the privacy of Alisson and his family during this time.”
