Competition: Premier League
Market: Aston Villa win
Odds: 5/6 @ 888sport
With a real chance to make it back-to-back wins in midweek, Aston Villa will make the trip to a rock-bottom Sheffield United on Wednesday evening.
Starting with the hosts, while Sheffield United might have enjoyed a boost thanks to their FA Cup run, the Blades have only continued on a Premier League nightmare. Coming crashing back down to earth after their stunning campaign last season, Chris Wilder’s side have freefallen their way to a Championship return. Only continuing to break a string of unwanted records this year, they were last seen on Sunday night eventually getting hit with a routine 2-0 defeat at home against Liverpool. Opening Wednesday’s meeting at Bramall Lane sat 15 points adrift of safety, Wilder’s side have also lost each of their last four top-flight matchups on the bounce. With it appearing their victory against West Brom last month was just a minor bounce, United should face another stern test on home soil in midweek.
As for the visitors, while Aston Villa might have once again been without skipper Jack Grealish over the weekend, Dean Smith’s men did pick up an eye-catching victory on their travels. Eventually leaving Elland Road with a 1-0 win to show for their troubles, the former Brentford boss has seen his side gain a string of plaudits this season. While they might have only just managed to hang onto their Premier League status last summer, Villa have a shock European charge at the top of their agenda. Smelling a golden chance on the road this week, it should also be noted that Smith’s side secured all three points when they faced off against the Blades back in September. Hoping that their attacking talisman can make a return at Bramall Lane, we’re backing an away victory on Wednesday evening.
