Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius is a target for Bayern Munich, according to a report in Germany.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper is currently on loan at Union Berlin and has spoken about staying with the German outfit permanently.
Karius has started Union Berlin’s last three Bundesliga matches with Andreas Luthe’s absent due to personal reasons. And Karius has kept two clean sheets and he also played in Union’s 3-2 loss to SC Paderborn in the DFB-Pokal.
It seems like the German is starting to enjoy life in his homeland and a fresh report has seen him mentioned in the same breath as Bayern Munich.
Sport1 report that Karius is a goalkeeper who is potentially interesting the Bundesliga champions. Bayern are on the hunt for an experienced back-up to No.1 Manuel Neuer.
Alexander Nubel has been heavily linked with a loan move away to AS Monaco this summer. It would mean a link up with old boss Nico Kovac as he goes in search of some game time.
Nubel has played twice this season, but when he was signed on a free transfer from Schalke a clause in his contract reportedly stated that he had to play 10 games a season.
It would be an exciting opportunity for Karius, who has not featured for Liverpool since making two big errors in the Champions League final against Real Madrid in 2019.
“I still have a contract with Liverpool until 2022,” he told Sport Bild. “But of course I can imagine staying in Berlin if everything fits.
“I’m not just passing through here. The mentality of the people and the spirit of the team are good for me.”
“I’m basically a down-to-earth guy. Even though I drive an expensive car.”
Asked about his relationship with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, he said: “It was always fair and honest. He always tells you what the situation is like.
“We always had a good relationship and never had a problem. His successes speak for themselves.
“He is currently one of the best coaches of the world.
“He said it (the move to Union) is a good step, that I have the chance to distinguish myself here and he told me that I can show everyone that I’m a really good goalkeeper.”
