Lionel Messi has been joined by Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus and tennis legend Serena Williams in Gatorade’s new campaign, The Greatest Never Settle.
The film includes some of the pair’s greatest Champions League moments, with the competition’s round of 16 in process ahead of May’s final in Istanbul.
The campaign will see a second film focused on Messi that will premiere in the coming weeks showcasing the “Never Settle” mindset. Additionally, Gatorade will launch a digital content series called “Fueling Greatness” that provides a unique, behind-the-scenes perspective to educate competitive athletes on the brand’s critical role in fuelling the world’s elite athletes – from training, to performance and recovery.
In a release, Messi said: “This Gatorade campaign demonstrates the importance of pushing yourself to be better and believing you can go further, even when you have been successful. It takes hard work, on and off the pitch, to try and get to a place where you can perform on the world’s biggest stages, and I hope this campaign inspires both fans and young athletes to never settle as they journey on their own paths to greatness.”
His counterpart Jesus will be back in Champions League action next week against Borussia Monchengladbach as his Man City side look to seal passage to the quarter finals, having scored in a 2-0 win in the nominal ‘away’ leg at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.
Messi and Barça, meanwhile, go to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday as they look to produce another famous comeback against the 2019/20 Ligue 1 champions after a 4-1 first leg defeat at Camp Nou, inspired by a Kylian Mbappe masterclass.
The Catalan side famously came back from a 4-0 first leg defeat at the same stage four years ago, with three goals from the 88th minute onward to seal a 6-5 aggregate victory.
