Liverpool and Real Madrid are monitoring the progress of Santos winger Angelo Gabriel ahead of a potential transfer swoop, according to a report.
Gabriel is the latest in a long line of Brazilian talents to storm onto the scene for Santos.
The teenager made his first-team debut in October at the age of 15 and has not looked back since. Indeed, he went on to make eight more outings in the Brazilian Serie A last term.
Furthermore, his stock rose even further on Tuesday when he made his first appearance in the esteemed Copa Libertadores.
Neymar and Rodrygo are two of the most notable names to have gone onto become stars after leaving Santos.
As such, after missing out on his signature to Real Madrid in 2019, the report adds that the Reds have registered their interest in Gabriel early.
Indeed, Los Blancos have done the same, knowing that the time will soon be right for him to leave Brazil.
The report adds that while Liverpool and Real Madrid’s interest is in its infancy, both sides are ‘analysing’ the possibility of a transfer.
Gabriel only officially joined Santos’ first team in January and signed a contract until the summer of 2023.
But with their recent history of marquee sales, the Brazilian club placed a €60million (£51million) release clause in the deal.
As well as making waves domestically, Gabriel has begun his journey on the international stage. The 16-year-old has made six appearances for Brazil’s Under-16s, notching two assists.
Ferdinand backs Liverpool for Mbappe
As well as scouting the world’s best young talents, Liverpool will be after marquee signings this summer.
Kylian Mbappe is unlikely to be among them, but links between Anfield and the France star continue to swirl.
In fact, Rio Ferdinand feels that the Reds could convince the striker even if they miss out on next season’s Champions League.
