Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that winger Angel Di Maria has put pen to paper on a new contract at the Parc des Princes.
The Argentine, whose previous deal was due to expire in the summer, has been a crucial part of the team under Mauricio Pochettino and predecessor Thomas Tuchel, racking up a team-high nine assists in Ligue 1.
PSG have been working to extend Di Maria’s deal over the past few weeks, and the club took to their official website on Friday to confirm that an agreement has finally been reached to extend his stay in Paris by a further year.
As part of the deal, PSG will also have the option to further extend Di Maria’s contract by one extra season.
This new contract means Di Maria will almost certainly end up breaking the club’s all-time assist record. He has racked up 99 to date, sitting just four behind Safet Susic’s 103.
Sorting out contracts is high on PSG’s to-do list these days. Alongside Di Maria, talks have also been opened with German midfielder Julian Draxler, whom L’Equipe states has impressed Pochettino since his arrival at the club in January.
Draxler’s deal expires in the summer and it was widely assumed that he would be allowed to walk for free, with teams in the Bundesliga and Premier League keen on the 27-year-old. But it seems as though PSG have had a change of heart.
Also on the agenda are the futures of both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. The former is expected to sign a new deal in the near future, but doubts remain over Mbappe, who is right at the very top of Real Madrid‘s wish list this summer.
“You know what our intentions are,” sporting director Leonardo told RMC Sport. “We are trying to reach a conclusion as quickly as possible. We are speaking, we are advancing, we will see.
“We are going to reach a moment where we need a conclusion and an idea of each other’s position. It is important to be clear… Today, Mbappe is under contract with PSG until June 30, 2022. That is a fact. Today, there is no worry.”
