Manchester United face competition for a top centre-back, while there is mixed news for Chelsea in Tuesday’s transfer gossip.
KOULIBALY BECOMES TOP EVERTON TARGET
Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti wants a reunion with Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who is also wanted by Manchester United.
That’s according to Football Insider, who claim that a top centre-back is Ancelotti’s priority this summer. Koulibaly certainly fits that description, as he is widely touted as one of the best in his position in the world.
The Senegal international has excelled with Napoli over the past seven seasons. At the age of 29, he is still in the prime of his career.
Koulibaly has often been linked with Man Utd, who are also in the hunt for a new centre-back of the highest quality. However, it seems they could face a surprise threat from Everton.
Ancelotti worked with Koulibaly during his stint as Napoli head coach, and naturally had a big role for the former Metz man.
Now, the Italian coach believes he needs a world-class centre-back to elevate Everton further up the table. Koulibaly is well on his mind.
Napoli still have a high asking price for their star man, but Ancelotti has been reassured by Everton’s owners that he will have funds to spend in the transfer market.
Therefore, Koulibaly has emerged as their top target, and a transfer battle with United could ensue.
The centre-back remains under contract in Naples until 2023, but his market value could start dropping soon.
