Germany manager Joachim Low has revealed Toni Kroos will play no part in his side’s upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers with Iceland, Romania and North Macedonia.

The Real Madrid man was named in Low’s 26-man squad last week as Die Mannschaft begin their road to Qatar.

After linking up with his international colleagues, it emerged that Kroos has been suffering from an adductor injury, and following further tests the decision has been taken not to field him in any of Germany’s matches during the international break.

The German FA took to their official website to announce the news, with Low confirming the midfielder’s withdrawal was precautionary more than anything with the European Champions less than three months away.

“Our medical department has examined and treated Toni intensively,” Low said. “He would have liked to stay with us, and I am reluctant to do without him.

“With a view to the European Championship tournament in the summer, we have decided that a full recovery from this injury now has priority must.”

Kroos will now return to Spain where he’ll undergo further tests on the injury, and as of yet there’s no indication as to just how serious the issue is.

Zinedine Zidane will be hoping the international break allows the German midfielder enough opportunity to recover from the knock in time for Real Madrid’s next league outing.

Los Blancos’ next game sees them face Eibar on 3 April, with the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final with Liverpool just three days later. They then have a potentially crucial La Liga clash with Barcelona as Real look to rein in current league leaders Atletico Madrid.

In what has been a fairly underwhelming campaign for Zidane’s side so far, the Frenchman can ill-afford to have one of his best players sidelined as they reach a season-defining run of games.
