Price revealed as Wolves jump queue for Serie A struggler

Reports in the Italian media claim Wolves are eyeing a summer swoop for Fiorentina’s struggling forward Christian Kouame.

Kouame, 23, joined La Viola, initially on loan, from Genoa in January 2020. The Ivory Coast international scored one goal from seven appearances in the second half of 2019-2020. He was then handed a permanent deal at Stadio Artemio Franchi in the summer of 2020. But things have not gone to plan for the former Inter Milan youth star.

He has made 24 Serie A appearances but been handed just seven starts. And the Abidjan-born star has responded by scoring just one league goal.

The youngster has bagged another in the Coppa Italia but reports suggest Fiorentina are not impressed. It has been said that they are willing to listen to offers for the player in the off-season.

And, according to Italian daily La Nazione, Wolves have already shown an interest in the frontman.  Crystal Palace and Leeds have previously been linked but it is not known if the duo still hold an interest.

A bid in the region of €18m could be enough to get a deal over the line. And it is thought that Wolves are willing to pay that amount.

It would represent a gamble for Nuno Espirito Santo, with Kouame yet to prove himself at the top level. He did score 15 goals from 63 outings for Serie B side Cittadella.

But playing in the Premier League is another level and he may struggle to see game time at Molineux.

Kouame up against stiff Wolves competition

Wolves have struggled to score goals this term. From 29 league games they have registered just 28, with Raul Jimenez’s absence a key factor in that number.

The Mexico forward has been tipped to return to action before the end of the season. However, the club will take no chances after his serious head injury that required surgery.

He will be back next term and ready to lead the line once again. No Wolves player has hit double figures in the goal tally in 2020-2021.

Pedro Neto has five but been tipped to take his game to the next level by Steve Bull. The Wolves legend feels he can eventually reach the level shown by Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He’s absolutely class, he just floats across the grass and the way he stretches his legs past players is absolutely unbelievable,” he said.

It remains to be seen if Wolves do make a move for Kouame in the summer. But, Nuno would settle for a fit and firing Jimenez to improve on their current position of 13th in the standings.
