Barcelona attacker fancied by Liverpool, Man Utd facing ultimatum

A Barcelona forward most recently linked with loan switches to Liverpool and Man Utd is set to see his future resolved ‘in the coming days.’

Barcelona have experienced a rollercoaster ride under new boss Ronald Koeman. Pre-season speculation surrounding the future of global icon Lionel Messi dominated the headlines. A slow start in La Liga was then compounded by their early exit from the Champions League at the Round of 16 stage.

The club may yet lift silverware, but by all accounts the Catalan giants are not the dominant force they once were.

A major factor behind their slide is the massive levels of debt they have accrued during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Club record signing Philippe Coutinho was recently revealed to be available for a cut-price fee as the club seeks to balance the books.

One player who could ease the financial burden is Ousmane Dembele.

The Frenchman, 23, has failed to live up to expectations since his blockbuster arrival in 2017.

Nevertheless, with age on his side and obvious potential, several English clubs have registered interest over the last year.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano (writing exclusively for Benchwarmers), now notes that Dembele’s future will be decided ‘in the coming days.’

He reveals that Liverpool attempted to sign the attacker on loan in June. Man Utd then tried their hand in September.

If their interest remains, both appear set for disappointment.

Barcelona will soon commence negotiations over a new contract with Dembele, and new club president Joan Laporta is reportedly a fan.

The Spaniard wishes to ‘keep him’, meaning an extension to his current deal is the likeliest outcome.

Man Utd receive £12m bid

Meanwhile, AC Milan have made an informal offer of around £12m to sign Diogo Dalot on a permanent basis from Manchester United, a report claims.

There has been talk of a permanent deal for Dalot, even though he remains under contract with United until 2023. Milan are hesitant to pay the full asking price, though.

According to the Metro, United want to recoup at least the £18m they spent on Dalot originally. But now, Milan have come in with a low-ball, informal offer.

The Serie A side are seeking to buy Dalot for a cheaper amount and could put £12m on the table. United are unlikely to agree to such terms.

Dalot would be open to staying with Milan, but also sees “unfinished business” in Manchester. Either way, he will hope to keep getting regular gametime next season.
