Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd move for star target as rivals threaten tempting swap

Manchester United step up their pursuit of a winger target amid rival interest, while Spurs identify a new goalkeeper target – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.

Manchester United have stepped up plans to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, according to a report.

United held interest in a loan deal for the Frenchman last summer, amid another season where he struggled for minutes due to injury.

However, he has turned it around under Ronald Koeman this term and has made 35 appearances in all competitions. That figure represents almost half of the 74 he had managed for Barca before the start of this season.

With Dembele‘s resurgence, though, has come a desire from Barca officials to hand him a new contract to extend his terms, which currently run out at the end of next season.

Nevertheless, Sport reports (via Sport Witness) that United have still put plans in motion to sign the winger.

The source claims that United will either offer a fee to Barca in the upcoming transfer window, or wait to sign him for free and run the risk of him signing a new deal – or another club snapping him up.

Indeed, a separate report from Tuttosport claims (via Football Italia) that Juventus are considering a swap deal for Dembele involving Paulo Dybala.

Attacking midfielder Dybala has already been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Tottenham and Chelsea supposedly keen.

As for Barcelona boss Koeman’s stance, meanwhile, Sport adds that the Dutchman wants to tie Dembele down given that he has become an ‘important pillar’ of his team.

Dembele, who moved to Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in 2017, has chipped in with nine goals and four assists this season.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano said recently that the forward’s future will be decided ‘in the coming days’.
