Plenty of players have the potential to go well in the Championship Golden Boot race.
Dominic Solanke is a tempting 20/1 shot, playing in what should be an attack-minded Bournemouth side.
West Brom’s central striker Karlan Grant is at 12s, with his team-mate Callum Robinson offering possible each-way value at 33/1.
QPR’s Charlie Austin (20s) is also towards the head of the market, one which is led jointly by Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, winner of this prize two seasons ago, and the surprise runner-up last term, Adam Armstrong of Blackburn.
Armstrong managed to score 28 times in a Blackburn team which finished only 15th. It’s not controversial to suggest he may struggle to repeat that unless Rovers improve.
Golden Boot/top scorer – Kieffer Moore 16/1 e/w (bet365, &14; 1-4)
The player I like here is Kieffer Moore.
The Cardiff target man has improved year on year for some time now and further progression could well reward his backers in 2021/22.
He scored 17 goals for Barnsley in League One in 2018/19 before moving up to the Championship with Wigan.
In a struggling side, Moore still managed to notch double figures and so it wasn’t a huge surprise that following last summer’s £2million move to south Wales that he recorded his best-ever tally of 20 in a season.
That earned him a place – most firms bet the top four each way – in this market and he looks capable of that again.
Moore’s ascent has also earned him international recognition and he was a starter for Wales at Euro 2020 which helps show the high regard he is held in.
Eighth last season, Cardiff are again expected to be in the play-off mix and the experience of boss Mick McCarthy should aid them on that front.
He’s a man who likes his strikers to stay down the middle of the pitch and you can expect the Bluebirds to set up in a way which focuses on the supply lines into Moore, a player who carries clear aerial threat but is also no mug with the ball at his feet.
Only three teams scored more than Cardiff last season so chances should be created.
Sylvan Ebanks-Blake won the Golden Boot in McCarthy’s Championship-winning Wolves side, while his victory in this division with Sunderland saw him get regular goals out of Marcus Stewart, playing primarily through the middle.
Moore will be a key man in his 2021/22 side and at 16/1, I can back the Welshman to top the charts.
